Education

We fully support the Board of Education's efforts to create a school system that provides the resources necessary for students of all interests and abilities to reach their full potential. We rejoice in seeing Branford students thriving and learning and we try to accept every invitation received to speak to a class, to appear at an educational event, or to attend a school performance. The principles we honor include:

Mutual respect and cooperation between Town Hall and the Board of Education through open and honest communication

A relationship with the Board of Education and the Superintendent that respects and celebrates the efforts of the school system.

Open communication about the needs of the school system and the town’s financial ability to support those needs.

Results of the Connecticut Mastery Test, taken by students in Grades 3-8 this past spring, were recently released. Some scores are very disappointing. We believe that our schools are a reflection of our community and we will be offering our support to the Board of Education for the improvements that we all want to see.

Fran Walsh spent his entire career in the field of education and has been credited with creating innovative teaching initiatives that were adopted by other school systems throughout the nation. Fran maintains his deep interest in and commitment to education. When he retired, he was honored for his 24 years of service as the Principal of the middle school. The school is now named Francis Walsh Jr. Intermediate School.
