Encouraging Community Initiatives and Partnerships

Supported the development of the Volunteer Service Center by working with four volunteer groups—the Community Dining Room, the Branford Clothing Bank, the Branford Food Council, the Friends of the Blackstone Library—and other community leaders to convert the old police headquarters to the VSC. |

Worked with the Branford Land Trust to acquire many key acres of open space land, including Medlyn Farm, the Forrest Hill property, the Foote Trust Pisgah Brook property; and started negotiations for the Saltonstall Mountain property. |

Brought together the Branford Garden Club, the Branford Interfaith Housing Corporation and the Mutual Housing Association to create senior housing and a public botanical garden on the Rosenthal property on Kirkham Street. |

Built the first Animal Shelter in Branford using major citizen involvement and fund-raising that began with money given by children eager to help. |

Supported the Branford River Project’s efforts to acquire and operate a pump-out boat to collect sewage from recreational boats in order to help clean up our Branford River and Long Island Sound. |

Established a plan for renovating and expanding Town Hall with community input and support. |
